Areas of Expertise:

SPINE: I have special expertise in pathologies of the spine including degenerative disc disease of lumbar and cervical spine and their surgical treatment including cervical disc replacement or fusion and lumbar or cervical spinal canal stenosis causing neurogenic claudication or cervical myelopathy respectively.

I specialise in spinal trauma including cervical and lumbar spinal fractures, Personal injuries i.e, whiplash injuries following road traffic accidents, other spinal injuries at work. I also treat patients with benign tumours around the spinal cord (cervical, thoracic or lumbar meningiomas and neurofibromas).

NEUROVASCULAR: I specialise in neurovascular surgery and treat patients presenting with Aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage secondary to intracranial aneurysms or AVMs. I also regularly operate on patients with incidental intracranial aneurysms.

PITUITARY TUMOURS: I have 18 years experience of treating patients with pituitary tumours these include large non functional pituitary tumours causing blindness and functional Pituitary tumours – i.e., those with hypersecretion of hormones and causing Cushing’s disease, acromegaly or prolactinomas. I have carried out a research in photodynamic therapy in recurrent pituitary tumours. I stopped treating these patients since last year but I do have a very large experience in treating patients with pituitary adenomas.

HEAD INJURIES: As a consultant neurosurgeon for almost 20 years, I have a vast experience in treating patients with head injuries including concussion, post concussion syndrome and skull fractures, complications of head injuries and decompressive craniectomy related syndromes (Syndrome of the trephine).

CRANIOFACIAL PAIN SYNDROMES: I have special interest in the surgical management of syndromes like TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA and HEMIFACIAL SPASM. I have good experience in treating these disabling disorders by surgery (Microvascular decompression or MVD).

HYDROCEPHALUS: I and interested in and perform endoscopic surgical treatment of hydrocephalus i.e, endoscopic third ventriculostomy and have a large experience in VP shunts for hydrocephalus as well.

BRAIN TUMOURS: I have large experience in all types of brain tumours including malignant intrinsic brain tumours (gliomas of all grades) as well as benign tumours like menigiomas. Due to subspecialisation, I do not regularly operate on malignant brain tumours anymore but I still have interest in and operate on benign tumours like meningiomas.
