Locum Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. He has retired from full-time practice (Feb 2015) and continues in part-time clinical and medico-legal practice (NHS and Private Practice) in Birmingham.

He also has an Honorary Consultant contract at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, London and a locum consultant (contract) at North Manchester General Hospital where he is involved with the management of a small number of paediatric TMJ patients.

His special interests are maxillofacial trauma, jaw deformity surgery (orthognathic surgery), salivary gland surgery, dental implant surgery, facial pain and TMJ joint problems.

Mr Speculand undertakes major TMJ surgery including total joint replacement and has presented and lectured nationally and internationally about this.

He has over 25 years experience of writing medico-legal reports with approximately 70% as single joint expert with 15% for plaintiff and 15% for the defendant. He also undertakes an increasing number of clinical negligence reports. He completes approximately 70 reports per year. Reports normally take 4-6 weeks once all necessary records have been received.

Medico-legal examinations are normally conducted from The BMI Priory Hospital, Priory Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, B5 7UG. Instructions can be sent to his medico-legal secretary, Yvette Young. He is using virtual technology until Covid 19 restrictions are used.
