Dr James is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with 15 years of NHS clinical experience across a broad range of settings, from community clinics and mental health services to hospitals and a specialist Sleep Medicine service.
Since 2020 he has been running a successful online clinical psychology practice specialising in mental health support and therapy, ADHD, and sleep issues including insomnia treatment. He is the founder of ChangeUp Psychology and Sleep Athletic.
He has considerable clinical and therapeutic experience in supporting individuals who have experienced childhood trauma, post-accident/injury psychological trauma, PTSD, work-related stress, and a broad range of anxiety-based conditions.
He is registered with the HCPC, has full comprehensive professional indemnity insurance and is a chartered member of the BPS.
Dr. James is a registered provider for leading private healthcare providers including AXA, Aviva, Bupa, Cigna, Vitality and WPA.
He regularly provides training events and consultation to other professionals and organisations and is an Honorary Lecturer at Cardiff University on the South Wales Doctoral Programme in Clinical Psychology.
Dr James is incredibly passionate about supervision and consultation and is on the BPS approved supervisor register, is BABCP accredited in CBT supervision and has a PG qualification in supervision.
He believes that good therapy should be empowering, focused, meaningful and effective, and built upon the strong foundation of an excellent therapeutic relationship.
His flexible and integrative approach draws from a number of psychological models to create a truly personalised therapy experience.
Dr James has completed in full the BPS Expert Witness Training programme and is an expert panel member for numerous leading MROs, and his training including preparing for court appearances and undertaking joint expert statements.
He is highly experienced in medicolegal assessment and expert witness report writing for Civil Court proceedings (e.g. personal and workplace injury, RTAs), CICA claims (Criminal Injury), Redress Scotland cases, professional standards and regulatory tribunals (e.g. HCPC complaints) and employee wellbeing assessments.
He can provide medico-legal assessments within 14 days from instruction and submit the report within 10-14 days following that, although it is usually considerably sooner.
He can provide information on the number of previous cases and anonymised example reports from previous cases if required.
His main offices are based on Cardiff, Swansea and Abergavenny, though he travels UK-wide to complete medicolegal assessments.
