My areas of expertise includes:
All things pertaining to clinical eye examinations performed by mostly optometrists, but also ophthalmic medical practitioners.
This includes all procedures pertaining to a routine eye examination in primary eye-care including disease detection, measurement of vision and refraction, binocular vision assessment and basic neurological assessment.
I also have expertise in contact lens fitting, assessment and management including difficult cases such a keratoconus.
I have an interest in management of ocular disease by optometrists such as dry eyes, anterior eye issues, and dry macular degeneration for example.
Knowing when to refer appropriately for more serious disease such as glaucoma or ocular emergencies is another concern for me (I was involved in a major study that looked at the accuracy of optometrist referrals, in England and Scotland, to ophthalmology and published in 2021).
I am also interested in pre- and post-assessment of refractive surgery patients (Lasik, Smile, procedures for example) and have also done published research in this field.
I am usually able to provide a report within three weeks of instruction or appointment.
I see private patients at Barnard Levit Optometrist where there is a considerable history of examining patients for medico-legal purposes.
