Dr Lewis is an experienced Consultant in Acute and General (Internal) Medicine, and a certified  expert witness for legal proceedings.

Dr Lewis qualified in medicine in 2007 and has been a Consultant in Acute Medicine at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust since 2015.

He has extensive experience in assessing and treating the whole spectrum of acute medical presentations.

This includes in Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), ambulatory care, the Medical Admissions Unit, a Level One higher dependency unit and general medical wards.

He has experience with telephone triage of medical presentations and on advising on what conditions may safely be managed in an outpatient setting and which clinical teams may need to be involved in a patient’s care.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Lewis is also the Trust’s Chief Clinical Information Officer and has extensive experience in the safe implementation and use of electronic medical records and incidents associated with those.

He is also a Caldicott Guardian and has broad experience in Information Governance matters. Dr Lewis also has experience of lead Serious Incident investigations and in conducting mortality case reviews.

Dr Lewis has been undertaking medicolegal expert witness work since 2023 and has experience of writing reports for claimants, defendants and on behalf of HM Coroner.

He has experience of presenting and defending his reports in Court. He has completed Bond Solon training and undertakes continuing professional development as a medical expert witness.

Areas include: 

Acute kidney injuries, general medical take, ongoing care of medical inpatients, ambulatory care and same-day emergency care. All acute medicine presentations, including chest pain, breathlessness, VTE, sepsis and infections, collapse, confusion, delirium, headaches, seizures, overdose and poisoning, alcohol use and related disorders, falls, head injuries, abdominal pain, gastrointestinal bleeding, endocrine/diabetes emergencies and non-specific deteriorations in health, weight loss, fever.

Dr Lewis has been undertaking medicolegal expert witness work since 2023 and has experience of writing reports for claimants, defendants and on behalf of HM Coroner. He has experience of presenting and defending his reports in Court.
