Professor Andrew M. Wardley is one of the UK’s most experienced Consultant Medical Oncologists, with over 30 years’ experience in cancer diagnosis, treatment and management.

He is an internationally recognised expert in breast cancer, systemic anti-cancer therapies, precision oncology and cancer service delivery.

He has authored over 300 peer-reviewed publications (h-index 57) and has made significant contributions to NHS cancer services, NICE technology appraisals, clinical trials, national cancer policy and multidisciplinary cancer care.

Professor Wardley accepts instructions as an Independent Expert Witness and Medical Adviser in civil and criminal proceedings, including clinical negligence, personal injury, inquests, professional negligence, and other medico-legal matters.

Professor Wardley provides independent, impartial and evidence-based expert opinions in accordance with Part 35 of the Civil Procedure Rules, Practice Direction 35 and the Guidance for the Instruction of Experts in Civil Claims.

To enhance the service he provides, he has successfully completed the Bar Training Course (BTC), strengthening his understanding of litigation, expert evidence and court procedure.

His services include screening reports, investigations on standard of care, second opinions reports, breach of duty and causation reports, condition and prognosis reports where appropriate, supplementary reports, joint statements, conferences with Counsel, attendance at Court and the provision of oral expert evidence at hearings and trial.

Training

Professor Andrew M. Wardley trained in medicine at the University of Manchester, graduating MB ChB (Hons). He subsequently completed postgraduate training in general medicine and higher specialist training in Medical Oncology in Manchester and Leeds, obtaining MRCP(UK) and CCST in Medical Oncology.

His postgraduate academic qualifications include an MSc and Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Manchester. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London (FRCP) and a Fellow of the Association of Cancer Physicians (FACP).

Membership

Professor Wardley has held senior roles within the Royal College of Physicians and the Association of Cancer Physicians, including serving for three years as Executive Chair of the Association of Cancer Physicians — representing UK medical oncology and contributing to national cancer policy and professional standards.

Internationally, he has been professionally involved with leading oncology organisations including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), where he served on the Breast Cancer Faculty.

His national and international breast cancer research roles have included the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) Breast Research Group providing national leadership for the UK breast cancer clinical research portfolio, which he chaired, the Breast International Group (BIG) of which he was a founding member, the International Breast Cancer Study Group (IBCSG), and other major collaborative breast cancer research groups.

He was awarded an Honorary Clinical Chair at University of Manchester for research of international standing A Chair at Manchester Academic Health Science Centre for leadership in Cancer Medicine including Co-Founding Manchester Breast Centre and Manchester Cancer Research Centre, being Chair of Christie Hospital Early Phase Clinical Trials Group. He has also been Co-Chair of Christie Hospital Breast Group and Director of Medical Oncology at Christie.

These appointments complement more than 25 years of consultant practice, clinical research and leadership in medical oncology and provide the specialist clinical background underpinning his independent medico-legal practice.
