I undertook neurosurgery training in London, Edinburgh, and New York City; with subsequent fellowship training in endoscopic skull base surgery. I incorporated a Wellcome Trust PhD during my higher surgical training.
I was appointed as a full-time NHS neurosurgery consultant in 2020.
My busy full-time NHS clinical practice involves elective and emergency adult neurosurgery, covering the full spectrum of emergency neurosurgery (including head and spinal trauma, subarachnoid haemorrhage, cauda equina syndrome, spinal injuries, and hydrocephalus).
My subspecialty work as a consultant neurosurgeon involves pituitary and anterior skull base surgery. I also continue research as an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Edinburgh.
I have written medicolegal reports for civil and criminal cases in England, Scotland, Ireland, and Australia. I am a member of the Forensic Medical Advice Team, coordinated by the UK National Crime Agency.
I am registered with the Law Society of Scotland as an expert witness. I am insured by the MPS for my medicolegal work and am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office.
I have previously completed the Bond Solon ‘Excellence in Medicolegal Report Writing’ course.
