Professor Dhavendra Kumar is an Internationally acclaimed medical geneticist with special interest in genomic medicine and healthcare. Currently, he holds the position of the consultant In-charge of the Genome Clinic of the Spire Cardiff Hospital, Spire Healthcare Ltd.
He was formerly a Consultant in Clinical Genetics at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff University, United Kingdom and led the All Wales Inherited Cardiovascular Conditions Service.
He also holds an Honorary Consultant in Cardiovascular Genetics position in the Inherited Cardiac Diseases Unit at the St. Bart’s Hospital, London.
He holds Honorary Professor titles in the Queen Mary University of London, Swansea University and several other overseas Universities in India, China, Sri Lanka and USA.
He is honoured with Doctor of Science Honoris Causa and included in the prestigious International Human Genome Organization Faculty of Scholars.
During his long career in medical genetics, Professor Kumar has amassed experience in the areas of:
Genetic and inherited diseases in children; Genetic and inherited diseases, complicating infertility and pregnancy; Genetic diseases of the heart and blood vessels; Inherited bone and connective tissue diseases; Genetic muscle and nerve diseases; Inherited and familial cancers; Congenital anomalies and genetic diseases and Genetics and genomics of common medical diseases.
In addition to dealing with wide ranging genetic/ inherited diseases, Professor Kumar has experience in genetic assessment and expert witness genetic review and reports in medico- legal issues related to non-accidental injuries, incorrect or missed genetic diagnosis, medical negligence in management of genetic conditions, and genomic testing for personal identity, paternity disputes or establishing/excluding DNA identity.
