Gary is an experienced independent social worker, manager and senior leader in social care. He is registered with Social Work England and Social Care Wales, specialising in adult social care and mental health.
He has a social work degree, a law degree, a master’s in advanced mental health practice and is a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health (FRSPH).
Alongside his independent practice, he is a warranted Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP), Best Interests Assessor (BIA) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) Authorising Officer under the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
He is a certified MoCA rater and holds the Bond Solon CPD Certificate in Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) for Expert Witnesses (Family and Civil).
He is regularly instructed in matters relating to mental health and mental capacity, including proceedings in the Court of Protection and the First-tier Tribunal (HESC) and the Mental Health Review Tribunal for Wales.
His expertise spans mental health assessments, adult social care, and NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) appeals and challenges. He has been named in several appeal cases, offering expertise in social work and mental health social care aftercare services.
In 2012, Gary was appointed by the Lord Chancellor as a Specialist Member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal for Wales, hearing referrals and appeals under the Mental Health Act 1983.
