I have been a Consultant in Aberdeen, Scotland since Feb 2003. Over the years my areas of practice have included:

Obstetrics and gynaecology.
Orthopaedics-including joint replacements, arthroscopic upper and lower limb surgery, reconstructive surgery and spinal surgery. This includes provision of regional anaesthesia such as nerve blocks, and postoperative pain management.
Plastic surgery including cosmetic work, ENT and thoracic anaesthesia, along with legal and ethical aspects of medicine.
I am an expert in the management of difficult airways, including patients with head and neck cancers.

In my role as a consultant, for the past 17 years, I have extensive experience of obstetric anaesthesia and analgesia. This includes provision of safe and effective pain relief for labour and providing safe anaesthesia care for childbirth. I have been actively involved in the management of high-risk pregnancy and managing them safely through child birth. I have been managing antenatal counselling for women with other health issues or concerns.

I lead the management of patients with awareness under anaesthesia in my area. I am on the fitness to practice panel for medical students.

I was instrumental in setting up a group to support colleagues with ethical dilemmas in our trust during the current COVID-19 pandemic (Supporting ethical decision making). Based on the national and Scottish ethical guidance framework, we offer support to colleagues dealing with such ethical issues in day-to-day life.

I have an interest in Clinical Negligence and Adverse Events Management. I have had an interest in the ethical and legal aspects of medicine and am currently pursuing an LLM in Medical Law and Ethics from the University of Edinburgh due to complete this summer.
