Phil provides clinical negligence reports covering all aspects of acute and general medicine including preliminary and full liability and causation, condition & prognosis and life expectancy reports.
He has experience of conferences with counsel, joint expert statements, and he has given evidence as an expert in clinical negligence and coroner’s court cases.
He has over 10 years of medico-legal experience, with over 350 expert opinions provided. Approximately 50:50 defendant:claimant split.
He is responsible for the streaming, rapid risk-stratification, and safe discharge of 30+ acute medical patients daily. Expert in managing time-critical conditions outside of traditional inpatient wards.
Deep familiarity with NICE guidelines for the variety of acute medical presentations such as venous thromboembolism, acute chest pain and community acquired pneumonia.
He is also an independent medical examiner at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.
The role involves the scrutiny of medical records to establish cause of death, liaising with the clinical team involved with the care of the deceased, and the deceased’s family.
Coroner referrals are made when necessary and clinical governance/organisational learning issues are also highlighted as and when appropriate.
