Professor Ravish Katira is a Senior NHS Consultant Cardiologist at Merseyside & West Lancashire NHS Teaching Hospitals Trust and is the clinical lead for heart failure services, nuclear cardiology, cardiopulmonary exercise testing and Coronary CT Angiography service.

He provides a comprehensive cardiac service, and his areas of interest are heart failure, coronary artery disease, arrhythmia, syncope, cardiac assessment for non-cardiac surgery and professional sportspersons.

He is currently Professor at University of Greater Manchester. He has been honorary Senior Lecturer at University of Leeds. He is a keen educator and dedicates a lot of time teaching and training resident doctors, specialist nurses and other allied healthcare professionals.

He was Deputy Training Programme Director (Core Medical Trainees) for 7 years and Training Programme Director (Simulation) for 2 years and is currently Examiner of The Royal College of Physicians and University of Liverpool.

He obtained his MBBS (honors) degree from Meerut University in India. Thereafter he completed his postgraduate education with successful completion of MD (Medicine) to practice as a physician and thereafter DM (Cardiology) to practice as a Consultant Cardiologist.

Professor Katira gained further extensive experience in angiography, pacemaker, angioplasties and complex bi-ventricular pacemakers.

He has worked as a Consultant Cardiologist since 2005 and has a wide experience of general cardiological conditions such as angina, heart failure, hypertension, palpitations and syncope (fainting).

Professor Katira has held several senior leadership roles including Cardiology Clinic Director for over 12 years and currently heads the ‘Heart MOT’ – Cardiac Health Screening at Spire Liverpool Hospital and Fairfield Independent Hospital, Rainford.

Professor Katira has championed primary prevention advice and regularly runs ‘heart wise’ clinics.

In addition to his clinical work; Professor Katira is also the speciality Cardiovascular lead for Northwest National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), case reviewer for National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcomes (NCEPOD), Chairperson, Southport & Ormskirk British International Doctors Association and Cochairperson of British Medical Association’s Northwest Forum for Racial & Ethnic Equality.

He has more than 100 other original publications in peer reviewed journals and has also published 2 books in Cardiology along with another two chapters in a book on Cardiology.

Professor Katira is an active member of British Society of Echocardiography, British Society of Heart Failure, British Cardiovascular Society and British Medical Association.
