Mr Matthew Mawdsley is a fellowship-trained Consultant Orthopaedic and Spinal Surgeon at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, with a specialist interest in the assessment and both surgical and non-surgical management of adult spinal disorders and orthopaedic trauma.
He trained in Trauma and Orthopaedics in the Northern Deanery (FRCS Tr & Orth, 2017) and consolidated his spinal expertise through senior fellowships with the British Orthopaedic Association and at Leeds Teaching Hospitals.
He provides expert medico-legal opinion under Part 35 of the Civil Procedure Rules, having prepared approximately 50 reports over the past three years on both claimant and defendant instruction.
His personal injury practice covers spinal injury, orthopaedic trauma and soft-tissue injury from road traffic, workplace and public/private accidents.
He also accepts clinical negligence instruction within his subspecialty, offering breach of duty and causation opinion in areas including cauda equina syndrome and delayed or missed diagnosis, spinal and orthopaedic trauma, missed or mismanaged fractures, and post-operative spinal complications.
He does not accept external instruction in matters concerning his own Trust.
