Nick Ellison is a Managing Director in the Advanced Analytics business, based in London. He also serves as the Lead for the Technology Expert Services team, providing expert testimony in contentious technology matters.
Nick specializes in software and technology IP matters including artificial intelligence (AI) misuse of IP, data privacy group litigation, disputed delivery of web and software development projects, fitness for purpose assessments, IT security controls and cyber risk.
His technical skills include multiple programming languages, database management, AI/ML digital forensics and blockchain technology.
Nick has been involved as an expert in several critical assessments for Kroll.
These include evaluating whether an algorithmic trading company adhered to court-ordered source code disclosure, investigating suspected theft of AI models from a Software-as-a-Service product by previous management, advising on best practices for an outsourced software development team at a leading sports data aggregator.
Also examining suspected source code theft in an Android-powered payment terminal’s Point-of-Sale application and assessing potential misuse of email metadata related to financial transactions.
His expertise spans a wide range of technology-related matters.
Nick holds an M.Eng. (honors) in systems engineering with computing engineering from the University of Warwick.
He is also a Chartered Engineer (CEng), Chartered IT Professional (CITP), PRINCE2 Practitioner, a member of the Institute of Engineering Technology (MIET), a member of the British Computer Society (MBCS), a member of the Society for Computers and Law, a member of the Expert Witness Institute (MEWI) and a member of the Academy of Experts (MAE).
