In Dublin the only neurosurgical hospital, which dealt with children was the hospital I worked in. Myself and one other consultant took care of all the paediatric cases there.
For the 15 years that I was consultant Neurosurgeon and head of department of Neurosurgery in Saudi Arabia paediatric cases formed a large part of my practice.
Saudi Arabia has fastest growing population in the world and hence paediatric population forms a large part of the population. I took up and learned techniques in workshops in USA about Skull Base surgery due to very prevalent incidence of Meningioma and pituitary tumours in Saudi Arabia.
I was the first neurosurgeon in Ireland to use intensive monitoring and control of intracranial pressure in severe head injured patients which I had started in 1976.
