Professional Summary

I am a consultant Urological Surgeon, with an interest in Female Urology, Andrology and Genitourethral reconstruction in Leicester since 2016. My research background includes a lab based Doctorate of Medicine in Prostate Cancer.

I have completed fellowships in Female Urology in UHL and Reconstructive Urethral Surgery in Pune, India.

I perform urethral repair in females for diverticular and stricture disease as well as vesicovaginal fistula repair and removal of mesh from the bladder and urethra and accept tertiary referrals from the region.

I teach on the undergraduate curriculum at Leicester Medical School (currently Undergraduate block lead for Urology). I am the Trainee Programme Director for East Midlands Urology trainees.

Medicolegal Practice

I have been undertaking medico-legal work for over three years and accept instructions in both clinical negligence and personal injury matters, with an approximate claimant/defendant split of 90:10.

My areas of expertise include:

General urology, neurological bladder dysfunction (including cauda equina syndrome), urinary incontinence, mesh complications, urinary tract injuries and reconstructive urology.

I also undertake urological assessments following personal injury.

Mr. Rai qualified from Leicester Medical school in 2003. He was one of the first cohort to qualify from the graduate entry medical programme, having previously read Pharmacy at King’s College London.

He completed his medical training within the East Midlands. Mr Rai attained his Doctor of Medicine in Prostate Cancer from the University of Nottingham in 2013.

In 2015 he completed a Fellowship in Reconstructive Urethral Surgery at the internationally renowned Kulkarni Institute in Pune, India. Prior to this he undertook the Female Urology fellowship in Leicester.

I offer both remote and face-to-face assessments, with appointments available at Leicester Nuffield Hospital. I have attended court as an expert witness, prepare reports in accordance with CPR Part 35, and attended the UK Medico-Legal Co.
