Dr Rathore is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with over 25 years of NHS and independent sector experience, currently working at The Beacon, Child and Adolescent Inpatient Unit, Leicester.

He is one of a small number of consultants whose practice spans both community CAMHS and the most clinically complex inpatient presentations, giving him a distinctive range for medico-legal instruction.

He has been awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Clinical expertise covers the full spectrum of child and adolescent mental health, including:

Neurodevelopmental disorders (Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD) — including the diagnostic interface with conduct disorder, learning disability, and offending behaviour; mood and anxiety disorders (depression, OCD, PTSD); psychosis and early-onset schizophrenia.

Eating disorders, including specialist inpatient and independent sector experience; attachment disorder, developmental trauma, and adverse childhood experiences; emotional and behavioural difficulties; and self-harm, suicide risk, and risk to others.

He has a thorough working knowledge of evidence-based psychotherapeutic approaches (CBT, DBT, family therapy) and is experienced in the use of complex second- and third-line psychopharmacology.

Reports are prepared using ICD-11 and DSM-5 diagnostic frameworks as appropriate to the jurisdiction and proceedings.

He is Section 12 approved under the Mental Health Act 1983 and has been preparing and presenting Mental Health Tribunal reports for over 20 years, with extensive experience of giving oral evidence.

Medico-Legal Expertise

Dr Rathore holds the Cardiff University Bond Solon (CUBS) Expert Witness Certificate in both Family Law and Criminal Law — one of the recognised benchmark qualifications for expert witnesses in England and Wales.

He accepts instructions across Family, Civil, and Criminal proceedings, and is experienced in CPR Part 35 compliant reporting. Specific instruction types include:

Psychological injury reports (personal injury, clinical negligence).

Parenting capacity and welfare assessments (care proceedings).

Diagnostic and causation reports (neurodevelopmental, trauma-related).

Risk assessments and fitness-to-plead / sentencing reports (criminal proceedings).

Second opinion assessments and responses to experts’ reports.

Joint expert instructions.

Both Legal Aid Authority funded cases and privately funded cases are accepted. Dr Rathore is available for court attendance and oral evidence nationally, and is experienced in joint statements and experts’ meetings.
