Dr Anantha P P Anil Kumar is a licensed and registered medical practitioner approved under section 12 of MHA. He is on the General Medical Council’s Specialist Register since May 2004 with General Psychiatry as his speciality and Substance Misuse Psychiatry as his subspecialty.

He has been working as a Consultant Psychiatrist at the Maudsley Hospital for fifteen years before moving to Bethlem Royal Hospital in August 2019 and was the consultant for a female acute inpatient unit until 2021 August. He is currently the consultant for the Forensic community teams in Croydon and Southwark.

He has more than twenty-four years of experience in psychiatry and have been a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists since July 2000. He has recently been elected to the Fellowship of the Royal College (FRCPsych).

Dr Anil Kumar is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Institute of Psychiatry,Psychology and neurology since 2016 a medical student firm head since 2017 and the Royal College of Psychiatrists Tutor to the Borough of Croydon since June 2019.

Dr Anil Kumar was awarded the Civil Cardiff University Bond Solon Expert Witness Certificate in April 2017 after passing the Cardiff university Assessment of his expert witness report, assessment of his performance under cross-examination and passing multiple choice examination on law and procedure. He was awarded the Family Cardiff University Bond Solon Expert Witness Certificate in October 2017.

Dr Anil Kumar been working as a Fee-paid Medical Member of the First-tier Tribunal Health, Education and Social Care Chamber (Mental Health) since his appointment in September 2018.

He has worked in all the General Psychiatry subspecialties including Forensic Psychiatry and Substance Misuse as a trainee and moved to London to do research in the aetiopathogenesis of psychosis at the Institute of Psychiatry, after passing his MRCPsych.

He worked in the National Alcohol unit and Drug Dependency unit as a SpR. in addition to that he did special interest sessions in a first episode Psychosis service and also in a specialist mood disorder clinic for a year each.As a consultant psychiatrist, Dr Anil Kumar has more than 17 years of experience ofbeing the clinical lead for multidisciplinary teams in various setting.

He has worked as the consultant for a community mental health team, assertive outreach team, forensic community team, female inpatient ward, female and Mixed intensive care unit and Home treatment team prior to his job as a male inpatient unit consultant. Dr Anil Kumar has a wide range of experience in assessing and managing first episode and chronic psychosis, affective disorders, PTSD, dissociative states, autisitc spectrum disroders, personality disorders in an acute and community setting.

I have also been managing dual diagnosis patients with a mental illness such as depression or psychosis along with Alcohol and Opiate dependence. Through his close association with national Trauma and Dissociation unit he has further developed his assessment and managing skills for PTSD, Complex PTSD and Dissociation in an acute inpatient setting as well as in the community.

He has published 26 data based papers on clinically relevant areas such as insight, cognition and treatment in schizophrenia in top peer reviewed journals such as Brain, Biological Psychiatry, Schizophrenia Bulletin, British Journal of Psychiatry and Schizophrenia Research. All his researches were in areas which have a significant clinical application such as why schizophrenia patients lack insight in to their illness, how this could be improved and also looked in to their coping mechanisms.

He has researched in to cognitive deficits in first episode and chronic Schizophrenia,
how it could be improved and the effect of medication on Emotion processing in Schizophrenia. Another research he did was looking in to uncontrollable auditory hallucinations and sensory gating deficits as well as verbal self-monitoring in schizophrenia and how to manage them. He has also researched in to the factors which lead to better responsiveness to CBT in Psychosis.

Dr Anil Kumar has been actively involved in the revalidation and appraisal of doctors at all levels, from Core trainee, Specialist trainee to the Consultant level and have had excellent feedback from the appraisees. He has been a Consultant Appraiser for 5 years and is responsible for the appraisal of up to five consultants a year.

He has been an Educational Supervisor for ST4-6 doctors for more than fifteen years and a trainer for CT doctors for more than 15 years. He has been an Examiner of the Royal College of Psychiatry CASC examination for the since 2009, and a member of the interviewing panel for ST and CT trainee selection for the last ten years.

Dr Anil Kumar a wide range of experience in medico-legal work commencing from 2003. The cases he has undertaken (approximately 30 per year) have been in family proceedings, personal injury cases, housing related matters assessing in relation to the equality act, immigration cases, mental capacity assessments and employment tribunals.
