I have specialised in geotechnical engineering throughout my career.

During the first 27 years, I worked for a ground engineering contractor, a major civil engineering consultancy, a small ground investigation contractor, a specialist geotechnical consultancy and then ran the consultancy division of one of the UK’s largest ground investigation companies.

Since 1994, I have worked as a geotechnical consultant, initially as one of a team of three very experienced geotechnical engineers.

Since 2017, I have been working individually for a number of civil engineering, geotechnical and environmental consultants and investigation contractors.

My experience therefore encompasses a wide range of ground engineering work – ground investigation, piling, diaphragm walling, earthworks, ground improvement, slope stability, basement design and construction and retaining walls.

I have been carrying out expert witness commissions for nearly 30 years now, working for claimants, and defendants and as a court-appointed expert. I have also provided the geotechnical expertise to a three-member adjudication panel.

My expert cases have included settlement damage to buildings and paved areas, subsidence damage due to clay volume change, problems with the use of ‘marginal’ earthworks materials and a basement retaining wall.
